Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Hi Alex, I'm sorry that I didn't give you more info. I really didn't think I could get legal advice for free,as I'm not able to hire an attorney. My Mother-in-law signed her deed over to my husband and his sister. Later on the sister was taken off the deed, so my husband was the only name on the deed. My brother-in-law (my husband's brother) decided he wanted to build a home on the land, so my husband signed the deed over to him. His dream of building never happened. My Mother-In-Law told my husband that when the property sold he would get $3,500.00. My brother-in-law finally sold the property in June '09. At that time my brother-in-law gave us $1,500.00 in cash with the promise of still owing him $2,000.00. My husband never got it in writing because he trusted his brother's word. We still haven't received the money after numerous e-mails. Do we have any legal recourse? Thank you so very much! Sandy Ledwith
