If a buyer has a commission agreement with a broker for an apartment and fires the broker, what is the obligation of the new broker to the old broker if the same apartment is sold?

This depends upon the terms of the written agreement. If the old agreement has not expired, there may still be a fee owed to the old broker. The obligation, however, is on the SELLER, not the new broker.
