Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
buying foreclosed house
I would like to know do I still need a lawyer when I am going to buy a foreclosed house? Does the lawyer help in inspecting a house? How much does it cost to hire a lawyer for this?

Re: buying foreclosed house
It would be highly recommended to retain a lawyer when purchasing ANY propert in NY especially one in foreclosure. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. In New York it is recommended that you retain a lawyer to purchase a foreclosure.
The lawyer does not help with the inspection of the house. He or she generally helps with making sure you have legal title to the property.
The cost for a lawyer varies. Most lawyers charge a flat fee paid at different intervals during the transaction (ex. the meeting, contract, closing).
