Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Closing on a house

If their is a lien against the property who is responsible to pay that off? The new buyer or the seller before closing in order to recieve a clear title? It states in the contract that there will be no liens or encumbrances at closing.

The Seller is responsible to pay all liens before Closing and your attorney should ensure this done.
