Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Deed

How do I go about changing my name on my deed to my house and adding my husbands name, do I need an attorney to do this for me and if so, about how much would it cost?

Re: Deed

Not difficult but an attorney will know what pitfalls to avoid. The transaction is relatively straightforward and should include the filing fee for the deed together with the cover sheets and RP and TP forms needed.

Good Luck

Re: Deed

You can do it yourself but you should have a frank discussion with a lawyer about items that may arise in the future. Such as: if there is an outstanding mortgage the bank should be notified prior to the addition as they may (though probably not) object. The problem here is that if they object and you do the transfer anyway there is a slim chance the mortgage company may declare you in default of the mortage.

Speak to a lawyer to learn other problems that may potentially exist.
