Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
DYI Real Estate Closing
I am in the process of buying a house in Central NY, it is a very simple sale and I was wondering if I should get my own lawyer involved or go it alone? If I go it alone, what are the things I need to be aware of, ie: abstract, title search, etc?

Re: DYI Real Estate Closing
You should certainly retain an attorney to represent your interests. Purchasing real estate is a huge investment. You need an attorney to review the contract of sale to assure that your down payment is not forfeited and clear title is being transferred to you.
The cost of representation for a real estate closing is nominal in comparison to the possible litigation costs and longterm effects of not being adequately represented.
