Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Eviction For Dog
Housebound pitbull terrier lives with 65+ y/o man for over 5 yrs, since puppy. Another tenant's dog in building, peed in hallways. Landlord made tenant get rid of that dog. He's on a roll and is now trying to make pitbull terrier leave or face eviction. Dog is papertrained and has not caused any harm to building. Can landlord evict with knowledge of dog already having lived there over 5 years? Landlord and bldg. superintendant knew about dog at time lease was signed. Building is funded by NY state I believe. Landlord has lawyers, old man doesnt. (1) Can he evict man after having dog 5+ years already all of a sudden with his new ''no pets'' rule. (2) Where can he get free Sr. citizen representation besides legal aide? Please
advise.

Re: Eviction For Dog
1. I doubt it. Seems to be a waiver to me. LL cannot modify lease on his own.
2. Call local county bar association.
