flood zone: Seller did not disclose that the premise is in flood zone so that we have to buy flood insurance. Can I recover from the seller based on his not disclosing this fact? and what can I recover?

Are you certain you did not get a form disclosure? If not, recovery may be possible, depending upon a number of other factors.

The flood zone is shown on maps that are publicly filed. How did you close without flood insurance? And no, you have no legally cognizable damages.
