Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Home ownership.

How can I keep my husband of 25 years from selling our house which is in his name only, without starting divorce proceedings? We have resided in the house for 20 years. It belonged to his family and was ''deeded'' to him. We have both supported the house for over twenty years.

Re: Home ownership.

Start an action for Separation as opposed

to divorce and ask for exclusive possession

of the house. This may only put off a

divorce for a period of approximately one

year.

Other than that, New York is a title state

Unless there is a divorce action, or a

separation action, the title owner can

dispose of the property as he sees fit.
