Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

My house went into foreclosure, i answered the summons stating i would pay REASONABLE lawyers fees, I owe $3,400 on my house (yes, that is all) , and the lawyer wants $2,000, is that REASONABLE?

Yes. If the fee is based upon his customary charges for his services. Attorneys do not charge fees based upon what is owed (unless it is a contingency case and YOU are his client). Obviously if the attorney you are referring to is the bank's attorney, you are not their client and therefore the fees are added to the bottom line of what they are seeking in their complaint.
