illegal apartments

1) what can you do if you are living in an illegal apartment.

2) My landlord has a dog that he keeps loose within the yard. The only way to access my apartment is to go into the yard. I have continuely explained to the landlord that I cannot have any company over due to this. My sister has been bitten twice and the dogs have gone after my husband and small children that i accompany into the yard. He refuses to do anything, what can I do. This is becoming very hard on me.

To answer the first question, the Courts will not uphold an illegal agreement.

To answer the second question, you can put your landlord on notice that he has a vicious dog. I suggest sending a letter to inform him that you will hold him responsible if an individual in your family or a friend is hurt. Thereafter, if someone is hurt you can proceed with a civil remedy.

Finally, issues regarding a vicious dog may be handled as a criminal matter through the Police or the District Attorney's Office. But remember, you are in an illegal apartment.
