Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I jointly owned a house with someone who recently passed away. We were not married. He lived in it while I lived elsewhere. I am presently cleaning the place out to live in. It is in such horrible condition, code enforcement got envolved. In the process of cleaning, I found money hidden on the property. Since it is my property, am I entitled to keep it? It's going to cost thousands to get it up to code and I sure could use it!

In theory they money could be yours, as a funder. however, if he left a will and that money were left ot his desendants, they have a right to claim them from you.
