Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Landlord Issues
My landlord is taking me to small claims court to get $3,000 in rent unpaid. I left my residency because my landlord was looking in my windows on 4 different accounts without prior notice of him coming over. I left bascially becuase he creeped me out. I did not want it to turn into a big deal. I figured me realized that I saw him and decided not to make a big deal of owing him a month and a half rent. He kept the security. Now over six monthes later he sends me a notice to go to small claims court. I don't mind paying him if he would then leave me alone. I do not want to go to court to have to see this guy. I want to know if it is possble to not have to directly deal with him. Do I have to show up to court or can I hire someone to do it?

Re: Landlord Issues
You can hire an attorney to appear with you in small claims but to defend the case and make your allegations and prove your defenses, you would need to appear with the attorney.
