Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Landlord didn't tell me
We have been living here (4 college guys) for 3 years now with minor damage, but repairable damage. We have had a few problems with the landlord such as not changing a fuse for over 1 1/2 years, sewer-gas for 2 years, broken window for about a year, etc. But the other day I bump into him and he tells me that he is giving a tour today (no 24 hour notice) of possible tenents for the next school year (our lease runs out in May). He told me that he told two (me being three) of the tenets a couple days ago, but I never see or talk to those tenents...I couldn't talk because I had a final but when I get done with my final the (future tenent) told me that they signed the lease. Is that legal to not even give all roomates a chance to say that they want the apartment or not? thank you

Re: Landlord didn't tell me
Unless the apartment (& your tenancy) is protected by rent regulations, the landlord is free to rent to whomever it chooses at the end of the lease term.
