Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Without a lease what are my rights for renting

I have been renting this apartment for over a year, I have new landlords effective 12/01. The only proof I have other than my canceled checks is a written letter from my previous landlord stating that all checks should now be payable to my new landlord. I was just informed yesterday 1/1/02 while paying my rent that I have until the end of February to move out. I have two children, what are my rights.

Thank you

I need more information. In particular:

1. Did you have an existing lease with your previous landlord that has yet to expire?

2. If the answer to the above question is yes, when does the lease expire?

3. Where is the apartment located?

Mike.

What State and County is the aparment in? NYC has best tenant protections.

Are you rent control or rent stabilized? You can only be removed for cause or to put in family member.
