Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

What are the legal issues surrounding abandoned real estate in NY. I live in a city that now suffers from many boarded up homes, etc. I want to learn more about the law around this topic to see what I can do to mitigate this issue. Thanks.

This is a HUGE problem. It would help if someone could work with the lenders to rent the homes out, and everyone wins. Then, the renters cover the taxes, make the place nice, etc. so even if they lost their homes to foreclosure and don't have money to buy another home (some people do that when "under water") many people can put together some rent money each month. It is going to take the lenders forever to unload their inventory AND they have a lot of "hidden inventory" to avoid the problem you mention.
