Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
I live in an illegal apartment with my boyfriend. After 15 days of living there the landlord came knocking and said we had 15 days to vacate because we were messy and because they didn't like that my boyfriend has not found a job yet and just stays at home. That was the only reasoning they gave us with no warning. Not only do we have no place to go, but we will have to relocate back home states away causing me to lose my job on top of all of the moving costs. What rights do we have and can we get our money back to help us with these damages? I tried to talk with them, but they would not comply.
1 Answer from Attorneys
Firstly yes you have rights. You cannot be evicted without proper notices being served and a court action filed against you. Do not listen to him. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases and very reasonable fees. However, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination.
