mechanic's lien

how to file a mechanic's lien?

we did a project,(spiral staircase in private residence)

got verbal approvals of completion, one on answering

machine., Requested architects written approval 2

weeks ago, to date has not come.

Contractor continued to work on location, and has

come up with every excuse not to pay final bill.

help.

what is documents are required?

Depending where you are in the chain of construction, i.e., subcontractor, subsubcontractor, materialman etc. there are various notices that must be filed prior to your lien. As for the lien itself, it requires a form and affidavit. You can buy the form but need to fill it out very carefully. You should consult with an attorney because there could be serious consequences if the filing is done incorrectly.

There's a form and an affidavit that have to be filed with the county clerk's office. You can get the form at legal statioery stores. Experienced contractors often fill these out by themselves. First-timers should get advice from someone who knows what he's doing, because there are consequences (some quite bad) from improper filing.
