Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
mechanic's lien
my husband and I own a house in Brooklyn, New York which we have demolished in order to build a building. We contacted a contracting company for an estimate of the work. Our mistake was that we provided them with the original blue prints that an architect had made for us of the building. The construction company has now filed a mechanic's lien against us for 13k, supposedly owed to them by us. How do I respond to this? What should I do? They never provided any service expect the estimate.

Re: mechanic's lien
If this is the case, an attorney should send a letter to the contractor demanding that they remove the lien as it would be in violation of the Lien Law to file a lien without having the consent of the owner to render work.
