Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
My mom died and she didn't leave a will. My family and I have lived with her in the house for the past 19 years. I want to remain in the house and take ownership of the house. I have one sibling.

Assuming the house was in her name alone and there was no will, you will need to buy your siblings share.

I agree with the previous answer. If you don't buy the other sibling's share, then he/she may sue you for partition.
