How to obtain a C of O on my own.
I had purchased a new construction house in Staten Island, N.Y. about 2 years ago and the temporary C of O expired in March 2002. The builders keep telling me that they are working on getting it, but it has been over a year and a half and they are still giving me the same response ''we are working on it''. Is there any way that I can obtain the C of O on my own?

It depends upon what are the conditions to be finalized. If they solely relate to the interior, you may be able to work with the building department to satisfy them. If they relate to outside matters (landscaping for example) you may be able to work it out but only if it relates solely to your unit. If the matters effect more than your unit, and impacts on bonds and/or other security for completion, it may be solely to the developer to rectify. Does the temporary C/O impact on your use and occupancy? If so, you may have a claim against the developer. I need more information to provide you with more than a general response.
