Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

If a person has a house and took a reverse mortgage, what is there right if they end up in a nursing home? I have been told that the nursing home can take the house and funds for payment. Is this true? Does the person have a time period to sell the house or are they able to sign it over to family or friend?
