Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Phone calls at Work
I am currently one month behind on my rent. For one month my husband and I were unemployed and told we were not eligible for unemployment because we did not meet the time requirement to receive benefits. I explained the situation to the landlord and she agreed to take payment late.
Since I have started working at my new position I have been receiving phone calls from her asking if money has been mailed. I have repeatedly asked her to stop calling me at work, but she persists. I need to know if she is allowed by law to do this.
I have promised to pay and I do according to the money I receive each week.
We have never been late before and I do not undertsand why she will not stop calling my job!
Please help!

Re: Phone calls at Work
Your landlord does not have to give you any courtesies and can start a proceeding for nonpayment of rent if you are not completely up to date in your payments. I don't believe she can bother you at your job, but she can sue you. Keep talking with her to keep her from starting proceedings. The courts cannot stop an overbearing personality; you'll just have to deal with this woman.
