Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Pre-existing condition

I closed on a condominium in March of 2003. The following August, the owner under me had a leak and told me that this has been an ongoing problem with the previous owners of my condo. It was determined that the leak was coming from my washing machine connection. The tenants are now asking that I replace their damaged computer and their water damaged ceiling and wall. Am I liable for this pre-existing condition? Arent't the previous owners required to disclose existing conditions prior to the closing?

Re: Pre-existing condition

Generally yes, if they knew about it. Read your contract of purchase.
