Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Property Law - Payment versus Title?
In a relationship involving an unmarried couple that have lived together for 15 years.. The husband does not work, does not pay any of the bills, but his name is on most of the items including the property and vehicles. However, the wife is working and pays all of these bills. If they were to separate, who is entitled to what?

Re: Property Law - Payment versus Title?
The property is owned in the manner title is held. However, to the extent that one party contributed more to the acqusition/maintenance of the property, that party may have a claim against the other party's interest.
Re: Property Law - Payment versus Title?
If the woman can prove she has paid for everything throughout the relationship a court should determine she has an equitable lien on all the property. Good luck.
