Property

I want to transfer my home to another member of the family. Can this be done without going to a lawyer/attorney? If so, how to I proceed?

Re: Property

The easiest way is to see a lawyer. Short of that, go to a stationary store and obtain a blumberg form for a deed. Take your old deed and type in all the information, together with the name of the person that you want to transfer the property to. You will also need a TP584 form. If in NY city, you will have to prepare the form using an ACRIS account. If outside the city, you will need a NYS equilazation form.

The deed must be signed before a notary public. The notary must acknowledge the signature.

The signed deed together with all forms are then filed with the County Clerk where the property is located. There is a fee to file a deed. The amount of the fee depends on the county.
