Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Purchaser's application
I'm buying into a co-op and the management company is making me provide them with my credit report, basically all my account numbers for credit cards as well as checking and savings and on top of that my social security number. If I'm supposed to provide them with all of this, should I still give them my ssn #. This just doesn't sound right. Am I wrong to sound worried?

Re: Purchaser's application
I personally believe that cooperatives and management boards are becomming excessive when asking for information. Maybe they are justifying their fees. Maybe they have been burned in the past. However, asking for a social security number is normal. Usually, tax returns are also provided that has social security numbers.
If you have a worry talk to your attorney. He or she may be able to talk to the cooperative or management board about preserving your confidential information.
