Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
real estate/ property line
my neighbor bought an empty lot next to my house. apparently our side yard is his property but the hedges that seperate the lots and the grass has been maintained by my husband and I for the past 15 years. Now all of a sudden he wants to sell us the property and relocate the property line. How many years of us maintating the property before it legally can become ours? He has made no attempt in the last few years to take care of the property so we did it instead.

It is 10 years to obtain property through adverse possession. However, you would have to commence an action for the property to obtain legal rights. You would have to prove that for over ten years you had exclusive possession hostile to your neighbor's rights.
