Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
realestate law question
me and a friedn are trying to find out if this is a scam, we met with this guy who said he could get us into a rent stabalized apartment in new york.. there is this certain area in new york that is rent stabalized and is not zoned for commercial use.. liek hotels, well there are tons of ''illeagul hotels'' in that area, he said that becasue of the laws that they are not supposed to rent for less that 2 week, because it is not a legit hotel, he said we should get a room there and before our stay has ended and we paid for it to request a lease for 6 months or more, then he said he have to go to the HDRD office? soem departmant for housing and complain and say look how much they are charging me for rent for this sro. in which they will see that it is way above teh legal ammount to charge in this area, so then once they review it they will tell us and teh ''hotel'' owners how much they can charge, and that they can not kick us out or lock us out.. is all of this right? he said he had done it and thats how he got his place.. he even had a contract made up we will be paying him 700 for his research on which place to egt an apt.

Re: realestate law question
Sounds like a scam. you will be signing a legally binding contract (that you can be sued on for the amount of the money listed), and then you will be "hoping" that some agency comes in and lowers your rent... and on top of this, you are paying someone for their legal research who is not an attorney and who does not carry malpractice insurance. Sounds like a scam to get you to sign an outrageous rental agreement. Stay away.
