Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
I recently went to a real estate agent to look for a apartment. She showed me a couple apartments but none of them meet my expectation. I eventually rented a place that I found myself. Somehow the agent found out and accused me of being unethical and threatened me of taking legal action if I don't give them compensation. She argued that although she didn't not take me there, she 'mentioned' that apartment in our conversation. (which is not true. I had a tour of that apartment before meeting her) What should I do?

File a complaint with her broker and with NY Department of State, which licenses brokers.
Do it promptly before she sues you. Keep records of when you first saw the apartment and who told you about it.
