Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Reimbursement of Attorney's fees

I paid an attorney $750.00, representing 50% of attorney's fees for his advice during the potential purchase of a coop in New York. However, the attorney only met with me for a 1/2 hour (he advertises his hourly rate as $300 per hour) and I changed my mind on the coop since the financial statements showed the coop was running at a deficit. Also, the documents I have clearly states that I should not pay the attorney until I put down my 10% deposit (which I never did). I called the attorney and asked him to reimburse me 50% of the $750, but he refused. Do I have any recourse available?

Re: Reimbursement of Attorney's fees

Just because he only met with you for 1/2 hour does not mean that he did no work when he was not with you.

Nevertheless, you can contact the bar association in the county where the attorney practices and request arbitration.

Mike.
