Roomate harrasment

Hi,

I just moved to a new appartment. My ex roomate harasses and threatens that he would call the police since I took ''his speakers'' worth about $15. He gave me those speakers when I leaved with him. Also, we bought an expensive router together, $100 worth, so since I did not wanted the router, I took a vase that he had in exchange for the half amount of the router ($50). When he called he did not say anyhting about the router, instead he only asked me about ''his staff''.

We both co-leased an apartment from another person. We did not have a lease, and I left the apartment without any notice since the landloard has raised the rent by 50%. I did not leave any debts though.

My question is can this guy sue me, and on what grounds? And if he can what his chances of winning? Also, if he continues calling me, can I sue him for harassing me?

If someone harasses you, you may take out a complaint against him at the police station. If the roommate can prove that you had agreed to pay a certain amount each month he can sue you for that, but he must prove the agreement. If you signed a lease or sub-lease, you are responsible until the lease is up. Check the lease carefully to see what it says about your questions. If you took the vase without his permission it has nothing to do with what he owes you, unless he told you to take the vase for payment.
