Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

roomate trouble

my roomate moved out a month ago and both of our names are on the lease. I have been looking for a roomate for the past month and am not having pretty good luck, while my old roomate still pays for the other half of the rent. Now she is trying to put someone in the apartment who i haven't agreed to. The landlord told her that we can pick someone and we didn't have to go through him. Do i have any right as a co-signer on the lease to stop her from putting just anyone who i haven't agreed to in the apartment?

You have "owner's" rights

Yes you have a say. Since you are named on the lease you "own" the apartment for the rental period.

Your ex-roomate remains liable for the rent in full even if she replaces herself with someone else.
