Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Just got served foreclosure papers.

I was just served with forclosure papers and I don't know what to do. We just bought our home 6 months ago and aren't even that far behind. I have three young children. What can/should I do?

Re: Just got served foreclosure papers.

The easy answer is to retain an attorney.

However, there are new laws in place concerning foreclosure. There are also agencies that will give advice for no cost. I would contact the Ulster County Bar Association for help and a referral.

Do NOT ignore the paperwork. Contact an attorney if you can. You should also call The HOPE NOW alliance and the Homeowners HOPE Hotline at 1-888-995-HOPE.

You should also contact your lender, but ask your attorney first.

Finally, you may want to contact a local Real Estate Broker. It may not be too late to sell the home and avoid foreclosure.
