showing an apt before owning the property
I am buying a 2 family house to rent. Can I legally show the apt to prospective tenants before I close on the house? Thanks

Unless this is part of your contract, you have no legal basis to show the apartment without permission of the seller. If the contract is silent, I suggest contacting the seller to make convenient arrangements if permission is granted. Also, is the 2nd apartment already occupied. If not, the seller should make some arrangement with you. If it is, you also have to contend with the tenant also. Finally, if occupied, what is the arrangement to terminate the tenancy before you close title?

The only way to show it is if the present tenant will let you. If it is vacant, speak with the seller. You should have tried to arrange this with the seller in your contract of purchase.
Good luck.
