Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Sibling eviction

For many years I have supported my brother in a home I alone own. At age 56, I have decided that I would like to live the remainder of my days without him and want him to leave. He states he has ''rights'' and will call the police department I work for as an officer if I try to evict him.

I am trying to avoid any embarrasment in my work, but I am afraid this may not be possible. My brother is an extremely nasty, ner-do-well person and I've just plain had enough.

What legal recourse do I have to remove him from my home once and for all, and does he have any legal rights to my home if I own it just because he's lived with me all these years? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Sibling eviction

You must start legal eviction proceedings. Since you are the owner, unless he has a written lease

he as no rights to stay there. If you need an attorney in NY you may contact me.
