Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Hi there,
Some time ago my grandpop passes away and my parents took in my grandma, soon after she was informed that her cousin in NY had passed away and left he a lot of money. The lawyer in Ny told us that this money would take a while to be given to my grandma because it was all in NY properties that had to be sold off one by one.
Well almost five years have passed and every month i go home to visit my poor grandma is asking "where's my money", and my mom is constantly calling the lawyer but being avoided.
If there is any advice you can give to ease my grandma's mind, we would greatly appreciate it....she is worried the lawyer may of stolen the money now.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
larissa

I would first ask for an accounting by sending a letter by certified mail. If the lawyer fails to give an accounting, I would file a petition with the Surrogate's Court to force an accounting.

I would agree with Mr. Markowitz, and it would certainly help to retain the services of an attorney experienced in these matters. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination.
