Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Transfer of ownership for a co-op
My mom just past away and left me our co-op. I pay the rent already, so being able to afford it was not an issue. The Treasurer of the Board tells me he can't change the name of ownership w/o a review & approval of me. I lived here for 26yrs. & mom signed all the proper documents before she died. I gave him a Certified death certificate too. Can they do this, and just kick me out?

Re: Transfer of ownership for a co-op
The issue of succession rights is governed by the coop bylaws and other rules. As a secondary matter, the coop may have waived certain rights or restrictions on transfers. Contact an experienced attorney as soon as possible to review your case in detail.
