Re: Transfer of real estate on divorce

If the property is in New York, then the wife can do a quitclaim deed. The former husband and wife can also deed the property to the former husband. Both of these are effective, and it should not cost too much to have them prepared by an attorney. Although you can prepare deeds yourself, I would have an attorney prepare it. Leaving even one word out can change the ownership interest.

If during the proceedings, then the transfer should be dealt with in the divorce decree. If done afterwards, just a regular deed transfer will do.
