Unlawful Eviction
My landlord changed the lock on my
apartment without notice. Does that
me she therefore violated my lease and
I am free to move? I live in Brooklyn,
NY.

There is no such thing as self-help eviction. Assuming the apartment was legal, you have a cause of action against the landlord for unlawful eviction.

Your landlord cannot use self help to evict you. He needs a court order.

An unlawful eviction such as you describe is illegal and you can move or be allowed back in to the apt.
