Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

wills

Recently my family suffered a loss of a dear freind to our family. I was wondering where this person's will could be obtained? There is a conflict on who is the executer of the estate. How do we even find out who is lawyer was?

Re: wills

You can call the Surrogate's office in the county where the person died. They can tell you if a Will has been submitted for probate. If not, and you need to try to contact the attorney, only way is to place an ad in a paper circulating within the county of death, and hope someone responds. If no Will is located, the closest living relative can apply to be administrator of the estate. If no family members are available, you will have problems unless a Will can be located.
