Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I worked at a camp this past summer, and everytime I recieved a paycheck my mom would take it without telling me and put it into her bank account where I cannot access it. Now, I asked her to withdraw some of the money for me, and she refused. When I reminded her that it was the money I had earned, not her, she said, "it's not your money until I give it to you."

Isn't this technically illegal? Although I'm only 17 years old and still live with her, the paychecks were in my name. Are there laws regarding teen workers and the money they make? Does the money made by a teen legally belong to them, or can their parents take it without consent since the kid is under 18 years old? I don't really know much about law, so if this could be explained to me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Firstly, do you believe that she is trying to steal your money? It appears likely in my mind that your mom is trying to protect you by ensuring that the money you earned is saved and not spent on frivolous purchases. However, she should have gone with you to the bank and established a bank account in your name and not deposited them into her account. Did you endorse the checks and give them to her to cash or deposit? Otherwise, how did she get these checks or have them endorsed without your being aware of it.
