Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in New York

Harassment or discrimination?

I am a male working mostly with men. My job is 1/8 in office and 7/8 on the road. However, the admin asst at or office, as well as the supervisor and the branch manager...even the district manager have had conversations aloud regularly of sexual nature. I have advised the branch and district managers that the problem exists and the ignored me and the issue. I told my service manager I feel uncomfortable with the innuendo and even sexually suggestive activity and the response was to not hang out in the office and leave when it happens because he can't change the scenario. I get a true uneasy feeling in the office and feel I would be singled out if I try to be the one to step up asking for change. What can I do?

Re: Harassment or discrimination?

Seems you have already tried to do what you can. If you feel uncomfortable, you may want to visit a lawyer who works in the field of Sexual Harassment/Discrimination.

You may further want to visit the EEOC or your state EEOC to see what an investigator there might have to say.

The only thing left is to either confront the offenders and tell them to knock it off at least around you, or leave. That appears unfair, but it is all you have left.

BTW, the threat of a law suit and negitive publicity, might be just what senior management might need to show the intestinal fortitude it might take to do something about it.

Good Luck.
