Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in New York

sexual harassment accusations

i recently filed a complaint at my place of employment, anonymously via email, about a fellow employee who i witnessed harassing women. i have since been contacted from company by means of phony email account asking for more explicit details of harrassment that occured. i have also heard that the company is trying to locate me via the ip address that i used and the person that i accussed will sue the person who filed complaint, i have a two part question.

should i provide more explicit information? where in doing so may result in them finding out who specifally filed complaint, and is the company obligated to keep the accusers information private so as to not allow the harrasser to sue the accuser?

Re: sexual harassment accusations

Thank you for your questions.

First, review your company's sexual harassment policy. Most policies encourage employees to come forward and report incidents that they observe. In fact, your questions should be directed to your human resources department or a trusted senior manager, either of whom should be familiar with your company's policies.

Second, the company cannot guarantee that your information will be kept confidential. In fact, if there is any litigation at all, your name will be disclosed. As far as you being sued, anyone can be sued for any reason. However, so long as you acted in good faith, under the terms of your company's policy, any potential suit against you will lack merit.

THIS RESPONSE IS BEING PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY, IS LIMITED TO THE FACTS AS PRESENTED, AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGAL ADVICE.
