Legal Question in Social Security Law in New York
Check Issued
In 1992 a check was issued from SSI to my then husband. I signed my name as Mrs....... I was LEGALLY still married to him and not legally separated.
What issues does this raise? Am I in any legal problem?

Re: Check Issued
If your husband specifically gave you permission to cash his check that's one thing. It's entirely another if he did not,--in that case it is theft.
Whether or not you are charged, you need to make sure you have cleared this with him, because the money was not yours to take. Your emphasis on not being "legally separated" strongly implies that he did NOT consent.
