Legal Question in Social Security Law in New York

How do I discontinue my association with my SS Disability lawyer? He has not been paid since the case has been denied. I would like to continue with a new lawyer.

As a client YOU always have the right to hire and fire a lawyer. The issue however is what your agreement is with a particular attorney and whether that attorney will seek his or her fee that you agreed to. You should certainly discuss this issue with the new attorney you hire. In the world of Social Security there is a form that gives your old attorney a right to stay on the case ofr a fee or waive a fee. Good luck.
