Legal Question in Social Security Law in New York
SSI and SSDI Question
My 51 year old friend in New York receives SSI and Medicaid because she is disabled. A rep from Social Security advised her to apply for SSDI. She was denied based on not having enough social security credits; they did not make a disability determination. She is worried that because of the SSDI denial, they will take away her SSI and/or her Medicaid. I am pretty sure that one has nothing to do with the other. Please advise.

Re: SSI and SSDI Question
In the case as you described it, one would not have anything to do with the other. Your friend is not in danger of losing her SSI and Medicaid because of her not getting SSDI.
