initals following a name
i recently met a person claiming to be a IRS tax expert. Following his name were three seperate initials. Please tell me what they mean. JD, EA, ATA

Generally-
JD is short for Juris Doctorate, which is a law degree,
EA is short for enrolled agent, An enrolled agent is a person who has met the IRS requirements to represent people before the IRS (you do not necessarily need to be an attorney, an enrolled agent could be a CPA or a person who took the IRS tests),
ATA is short for the Association of Tax Attorneys
If you wish to confirm the attorneys license contact the Office of Court Administration which is the organization which handles complaints, etc. for the State of New York.
