Prison marriage and income tax returns

Hi. I'm engaged to an inmate serving a long sentence in a prison in West Virginia. We are planning to marry towards the end of this year. I've never been married before. I must keep this marriage a secret, unfortunately, from my family because they would never understand in a million years.

My income taxes have always been filed by my mother's accountant and there's no chance of that changing. My question is: can I continue to file my returns as a single person? Is there any way my mother's accountant can find out I got married in a prison in West Virginia? I'm worried about next year's returns, of course, as i've already filed this year's as a single person.

Once married, you can no loger file as a single person; either jointly or married filing separately. Filing an improper return, with untrue marital status, can result in possible civil and/or criminal charges by IRS
