Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

1180B NYS interstate 87

Hey this my first speeding ticket ever received, i live in NJ about 4 hours from where i got pulled over. I was doing 70 in a 55MPH. The officer that pulled me said that she would have given me a 75mph ticket instead, but since i looked like a good kid she only gave me 70. My questions are would those 5mph make a difference on my ticket, since i live in NJ will i get the points, what should i do?? By the way i am 20 years old and never been given a ticket for speeding.. just one for not having my seatbelt on...other wise clean as a whistle

A speeder in NY counts for 2 points on your NJ license regardless of whether it is 75/55 or 70/55.

Warren is correct- there are ways to change the violation so that there are no points in NJ, but it depends on whether the Court will buy it.

I believe you can also buy points back in New Jersey- I'd recommend speaking with a NJ lawyer or checking with your state's DMV (www.state.nj.us/mvc) to be sure.

A NY speeding conviction will translate to 2 points on your NJ license regardless of whether the conviction is 70 or 75 in a 50 mile zone. In cases such as yours there may be an opportunity to "plea bargain" with a possible outcome of no points being assessed on your NJ record. NY speeding tickets count for 2 points in NJ, regardless of the speed.

We usually get a speeding ticket reduced to a violation that doesn't count for points in NJ. Our fee is $500. Would need to know exactly where you got the ticket to be sure of our fee.

You can hire us at http://www.redlichlaw.com.
